If you want to consistently get your food cooked just right then a form of accurate temperature measurement to tell you the internal temperature of the food is an important bit of kit. If you are going to all the effort of preparing a nice meal you may as well make sure the result is "bang on" (e.g. for a medium rare steak the inetrnal temperature needs to be between 55°C to 60°C). We have gauges from your basic analogue dial through to digital, blue tooth (for when you are nearby), wireless (for when you want to roam around the house or watch the footy on TV and keep an eye on your ribeye roast) and even cloud based. Cloud based is a whole new ball game and it is great for really long cook times(as well as all other cook times). Here is why... you can put say a Boston Butt pork shoulder on your Big Green Egg or Pellet Grill that is going to take around 10 hours or so to make pulled pork and then shoot into town and keep an eye on your grill from lets say the Supermarket when you getting the ingredients for a creamy coleslaw to make pulled pork sandwiches. You can tell if things are under control or if you may need to get back soon and tend to the cooker or get someone to make some adjustments for you if they are still at home...or you can tell if you can just relax and pehaps do another chore or two(or perhaps even something more exciting) whilst in town or wherever you are.
